Are you unhappy? Feeling lonely? Having trouble with relationships? If your answer to any of the above questions is a yes, then there’s a strong possibility that your heart chakra might be blocked or misaligned. In the quest of happiness, as we become busy with our families, careers, earning more money and collecting material wealth, many of us have gotten disengaged from our power centres. We suffer from all sorts of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual ailments without knowing that all of these could be the result of a blocked chakra.
Heart Chakra- Fourth Chakra
Heart chakra, also referred to as ‘Anahata’ chakra in sanskrit, is located in the centre of your chest. The Anahata is the energy center from which joy, love, happiness and compassion emanates. On a spiritual level, the fourth chakra allows you to let go of any feelings of loneliness, and helps you to feel that you’re a part of something bigger and that you belong. This leads to having a sense of inner peace. People who have a clear Anahata chakra are non judgemental and are more accepting of others. They can easily make friends and due to the inner peace that they exude, their presence often gives a calming effect to other people. When it comes to physical health, a balanced heart chakra can result in a healthy respiratory and circulatory system.
How to Balance your Heart Chakra
Here are some practical ways to open and balance your Heart chakra. Try to incorporate these three reminders into your daily life, and always remember that love is the greatest healer.
1. Embrace Green:
The colour associated with the heart chakra is green which symbolizes harmony, creativity, health and abundance. It is the combining of yellow(soul) and blue(spirit). Don’t spend time cooped up in your home or office, put those shoes on and go for a walk. Breathe in the fresh air and open your ears to the sound of the wind and the birds. Drink green tea, eat green leafy vegetables and connect with nature.
Learn to accept all possible images and all possible personalities, take the responsibility of the inauthenticity of them. If you feel too overwhelmed with certain emotions, write them down or scream out loud, you need to let them out. Be extremely honest with yourself with every word and write from the heart-it’s always painful but it’s part of the healing process. Be at peace with yourself.
The soothing power of music is well established. Listening to music can have a tremendously relaxing effect on our minds and bodies, especially slow, quiet classical music. As musical preference varies widely between individuals, so only you can decide what you like but always remember to select the most calming music. Listen to John Lenon’s ‘Imagine’ and enjoy the feeling of belonging and being a part of this universe.
Affirmations are like seeds planted in soil. Poor soil, poor growth. Rich soil, abundant growth. The more you choose to think thoughts that make you feel good, the quicker the affirmations work. So think happy thoughts, it’s that simple. And it is applicable. The way you choose to think, right now, is just that—a choice. Here are a few examples-
“I am a strong person.”
“I accept what happened.”
“I forgive those that have hurt me.”
“I free myself of anger and hate.”
“I am happy.”
“I am loved.”
The Heart chakra is associated with the vibrational sound of ‘YAM’. Chant this whenever you feel yourself closing your heart to the world. Remember, when working with your subtle energy, intention matters! Before doing any of the activities above, set your intention. For example, you might set and hold a general intention for heart chakra healing, or a more specific goal of forgiving someone, healing from an emotional wound, developing compassion, dissolving separation, etcetera. If you practise long enough, you will open your Heart chakra so wide that you will enter a dimension of all encompassing love and happiness. Everything will be so full of light, love and harmony. Open your heart for all beings and become love. Go the way of joy and lead passionately with your heart.
